Srinagar Dec 12: Facing repeated thrashing by the consumers for “insufficient” ration (rice) supply to them, the Valley’s ration depots’ store keepers called for an indefinite strike till Government issued an order about curtailed supply.
The agitating store keepers’ body, Food and Supplies Employees Association (FSEA), asked all its store keepers to launch an indefinite strike from (today) Thursday against the allocation of what they said, insufficient ration system that does not meet the demand of consumers.
Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, FSEA president said the store keepers face thrashing and harassment from consumers because they get insufficient ration.
“The department has given us a verbal order to issue 28 kilograms per ration holder while the consumers ask for 30 kilos. Where can a store keeper get the additional two kilos of ration? We want the department to issue an order for supplying 28 kilos per ration holder,” Bhat said.
Director CAPD, Mir Mushtaq Ahamd passed the buck to the Central Government saying the ration was curtailed by the Government of India when it had asked them (CAPD) to provide 30 Kgs per card holder instead of 11 Kgs per person.
