Srinagar, Dec 12: Doctors have demanded that the police personnel responsible for stopping an ambulance carrying a critical patient towards SKIMS from Kupwara should be booked for murder of the patient.
President Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan today in a statement said that it is shocking that on Tuesday police stopped an ambulance for half an hour carrying a critically ill patient Abul Rehman Dar aged 70 years.
“Dar was referred to SKIMS after developing acute coronary event. But Traffic Police stopped the ambulance at Seloo, Sopore for more than half an hour despite ambulance siren being on. The driver and attendants of the patient made repeated requests but cops harassed the driver and attendants and broke the siren of the ambulance,” the statement quoted Dr Hasan as saying.
Dr. Hassan said the delay led to the death of patient as for heart attack patient it is door to needle time which is critical and every minute counts vis-à-vis morbidity and mortality of the patient.
He said this attitude of police towards patients was brutal and barbaric. “This is unacceptable and intolerable. Those who claim to protect and safeguard lives of people actually are killers and murderers. The cops responsible for this heinous crime should be immediately arrested and booked for murder.”
