SRINAGAR, Apr 20: Senior vice president Pradesh Congress and former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil today appealed Hurriyat leaders to reconsider and revoke their poll boycott call because elections and resolving of Kashmir issue are two separate issues.
Mr Vakil was addressing a youth convention at district Ganderbal in Kashmir valley in support of coalition candidate Dr Farooq Abdullah.
He said that holding of election is inevitable for redressing the day to day grievances and difficulties of poor masses. Mr Vakil said that propagation of the poll boycott will definitely strengthen and encourage the corrupt people at the cost of honest and dedicated one. The poll participation prevents exploitation of masses by the people having vested interest in keeping the pot boiling here, he added.
Vakil said whole world is witness to the fact that dialogue, unambiguously, is the only way and mode to move ahead to resolve all vexed issues. He appealed Hurriyat leaders to reconsider their poll boycott option and accept the present day ground reality, which demands their participation in dialogue and democratic process.
While highlighting the UPA’s achievements in respect of Kashmir, he said, establishing permanent peace in Kashmir valley was the prime objective of the UPA Government which is evident from initiating of multiple CBMs to infuse confidence amongst the masses in the State. He said that appointment of interlocutors, opening of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Pooch-Rawalakote routes, constitution of Rangarajan Committee and Working Groups followed by implementation of their recommendations depicts the serious attitude of the UPA Government to put J&K back on track of peace and development and simultaneously find an honorable and acceptable solution to Kashmir issue.
Vakil reiterated that that Hurriyat’s cold response to UPA Government’s offers and invitations for talks has once again delayed the resolution of K-issue.
