17 theft cases solved; 3 held with stolen items worth Rs 25 lakh

JAMMU, Apr 20: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) has solved 17 theft cases with the arrest of three burglars and recovery of stolen items worth Rs 25 lakhs.
This was stated by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Atul Goel during a press conference at Channi Himmat police station today.
The SSP stated that due to rise in the theft cases in Channi Himmat, Trikuta Nagar and Gangyal areas, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted headed by SDPO East Mohammad Rafiq.
Mr Goel informed that during the course of investigation, the team arrested three burglars, who have been identified as Tanvinder Singh alias Tanu, son of Gurjit Singh of Model Town Gangyal, Mandeep Singh alias Manni, son of Baljit Singh of Sector 3, Trikuta Nagar and Deepak Kumar alias Deepu, son of Chaman Lal of Model Town, Digiana.
On their disclosure, gold ornaments worth Rs 21 lakh and 4 lakh worth other articles were recovered. The recovered stolen items include 700 grams gold ornaments, 6 gas cylinders, 4 LCD, 2 batteries, Nikon camera, 10 stabilizers, 2 big batteries, bags, brief cases, clothes, etc.
“With the recovery of stolen items worth Rs 25 lakh, 17 theft cases including 10 of Channi Himmat, 4 of Gangyal and 3 of Trikuta Nagar police stations were solved”, Mr Goel added.
He added that two of the accused namely Charanjit Singh of Sector 5, Model Town Gangyal and his dismissed SPO son Rajbir Singh are still at large and manhunt is on to nab them.
The theft cases were solved by the SIT team headed by SDPO East Mohammad Rafiq and assisted by SHO Channi Himmat police station Aijaz Wani, SHO Trikuta Nagar police station Chanchal Singh, SHO Gangyal police station Jasbir Singh, Inspector Parvez Ahmed and Incharge Police Post Narwal Inayat Ali under the supervision of SP City (South) Rahul Malik.
The owners of the stolen items and people have appreciated the police efforts for recovering the valuable items, stolen by the thieves.
