Srinagar, Feb 9: Even as the COVID-19 vaccination pace of 15-17 age group in the Srinagar district has remained low in comparison to other districts in Kashmir, the authorities today said that the vaccination is prerequisite and necessary for the reopening of the educational institutions while noting that the State Executive Committee (SEC) will soon take a call in this regard.

Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Aijaz Asad said that there is a drop in the cases and for that the Srinagar residents deserve to be praised. “In the third wave, there was a prediction of 4000 COVID-19 cases per day, due to the adherence to the COVID Appropriate Behaviour (CAB) by people, we had less than that,” he said.
He said that Srinagar witnessed the highest of 1700 cases a day and after that, the cases dropped. “No matter, the cases are down; we still need to adhere to CAB, because there still are 6000 active cases in the district,” he said.
With regard to the reopening of the schools, the Deputy Commissioner said that the vaccination of the 15-17 age group is a must for that which acts as a preparatory exercise for allowing the schools to reopen. He said that on the issue, the SEC will make a decision soon.
“For the reopening of the schools, the SEC will make a decision soon; the vaccination is a must and in this regard, parents are requested to vaccinate their children from 15-17 age group without any delay well in time,” he said.
About the acid attack that recently took place in Srinagar, the Deputy Commissioner said the move has been kick-started to regulate the sale of the acid in the district under which over a dozen of shops have been sealed and action stands taken. “Such drives will continue and it will be made sure that the sale of such substances is fully regulated in the district,” he said.
He said that Government is bearing all the expenses of the treatment of the acid survivor and that on the directions of the LG, she was shifted to Chennai. “The Government will ensure that she is rehabilitated apart from the treatment,” he said.
SSP Srinagar Rakesh Balwal who was also present on the occasion said that the investigation in the cases is going on in full swing, “will ensure strongest sections, and a charge sheet is filed as soon as possible; We will ensure the implementation of SC guidelines are enforced in the district to prevent such incidents from happening.
