JAMMU, Aug 24: With a view to highlight the unhygienic and harmful effects of the use of non-biodegradable material Advocate Maheshwar Singh Manhas, general secretary Pradesh Congress Committee held a meeting at New Plots.
On the occasion, large number of locals participated in the meeting. Singh exhorted to the participants to discard the use of polythene carry bags and non-woven based carry bags and replace them by using the traditional bags like cotton and jute.
Maheshwar said that State Government vide its SRO 182 dated 18/06/2008 has imposed ban on polythene carry bags within territorial limits of the State, unfortunately this has not succeeded fully as the polythene carry bags are found here and there in the streets, he added.
He distributed carry bags of clothes among the participants.
Other present were Vinod Singh Samyal, ex-secretary, PYC, Raj Kumar, Daljit Singh Salathia, Chuni Lal, Geeta Devi, Kareena Devi, Vidhya Devi, Soma Devi, Jyoti Devi, Chain Singh and others.
