JAMMU, Dec 2:  Chad A. Thornberry, First Secretary (Political) in the Embassy of the USA in India today called on Devender Singh Rana, Provincial President National Conference here.
They discussed the socio-political aspects of the State, especially the situation arising out of the floods, its aftermath and the timely measures taken by the Government for relief and rehabilitation.
Mr Thornberry informed Mr Rana about the efforts of the US Embassy through the Ministry of Home Affairs for the welfare of the flood affected victims.
Mr Rana also discussed Skill Development and Women Empowerment initiatives taken by the Omar Abdullah Government in the State and urged the US envoy to share information about such efforts being initiated by Governmental  and Non Governmental organizations in the US to improve own delivery system. The US Diplomat assured Rana that since they are discussing these issues for bilateral cooperation with the Union Government they shall be able to provide knowledge support in these two fields of vital importance to the state as well.
Mr Thornberry is on two day visit to J&K and his first engagement in the state was a meeting with Mr Rana. The hour long meeting was also attended by Dinesh Dubey, Political Advisor Embassy of the USA in India.
