Urban Jammu crumbles under power, water crisis: Suri

JAMMU, May 26: Senior BJP leader, Raman Suri has expressed serious concern over the worsening water and electricity crisis across Jammu city, particularly in posh localities where residents are being forced to depend on costly private water tankers amid the scorching summer heat.
In a handout, Suri said that it is unfortunate that even well-developed residential areas of Jammu and adjoining localities, are facing severe shortage of drinking water due to faults in tubewell pipelines and delayed repair works.
He said the situation has exposed the poor preparedness of the concerned departments despite repeated warnings about rising temperatures in Jammu.
“People are suffering immensely in this unbearable heat. Women, children and elderly citizens are the worst affected as they are forced to struggle for every drop of water,” the BJP leader maintained adding that the unannounced power cuts lasting several hours have further worsened the situation.
