JAMMU, Apr 13: The upgradation of Government Higher Secondary School (Boys), Bhaderwah into a Heritage School under Project ‘Prerna’ marks not merely a redevelopment initiative, but a tribute to generations of excellence, discipline and nation-building.
This was stated by Martand Singh, grandson of Dr Karan Singh and Trustee of Amar Mahal Museum Jammu.
Singh expressed deep pride and emotion on this occasion.
In a statement issued, he said, “The institution stands as one of the many significant contributions to education during the Dogra period in Jammu & Kashmir, reflecting a far-sighted vision that prioritized learning, institution-building, and social progress.”
“A proud and historic moment unfolds for Bhaderwah as the iconic Amar Singh School (established in 1920) – founded during the Dogra reign of Maharaja Pratap Singh and named in honour of Raja Amar Singh, whose jagir was Bhaderwah, enters a new era of transformation,” he said.
Singh said that this is a moment of immense pride, not only for Bhaderwah but for all those connected to this legacy, as the revival of this historic institution as a Heritage School is a fitting tribute to its rich past and enduring contribution to education and society.
“Generations of families in Bhaderwah have studied at the Amar Singh School and their sentiments and pride are deeply attached to this school that was made for them 106 years ago by the Dogra Maharaja,” he said.
Singh emphasized that while the physical restoration of the school under Project ‘Prerna’ is a welcome and commendable step, the true spirit of heritage preservation cannot be complete without restoring the institution’s original name – ‘Raja Amar Singh School’.
