It sounds so good to know that Jammu city is also being considered among the smart cities , but Jammu does not mean some posh colonies only ,it includes unauthorised/ underdeveloped colonies above all old Jammu city (City of Temples) also which has century old buildings in dilapidated condition ready to crumble down any time and more so in the rains or in some other natural disaster. The MP/ MLA of the area requested to take up this matter with the concerned Municipal authorities and should not wait till some mishap takes place due to negligence/ criminal silence of the concerned authorities. Despite this alarming situation in the old city, the Govt agencies yet choose to show apathy to these problems.
The question that looms large in case a mishap occurs is who will be responsible, Therefore, the concerned agencies should step in before it is too late and orders for complete survey to identify such old/unsafe buildings in congested area in the old city especially where it’s increasingly difficult to provide or carry out any relief measure. The civic authorities must inform and educate all concerned to take appropriate safety measure and if found necessary old dilapidated building be declared unsafe and order for demolition may be passed and more importantly executed. In genuine and deserving cases they could allow them to repair/ re-construct these buildings under proper guidelines / scheme in which loan facilities may also be considered. It will not only be a safety measure for the genuinely deserving cases, but it will add beautification to the city.
