page1-3JAMMU, Aug 6: Showing his deep concern over spillover of unrest to certain parts of Jammu region, Union Minister in PMO with independent charge of North Eastern States, Dr Jitendra Singh today said the Union Home Ministry will deploy additional forces to contain the situation.
“This is a matter of concern. There is unrest in the Valley for the last four weeks and with the last 2-3 days we saw disturbance happening in this part of the State, including Kishtwar, which has remained sensitive all along,” Dr Singh told reporters here today.
“We have brought it to the notice of Home Minister, Rajnath Singh and he has assured us that they are looking into it and are sending extra forces,” he said.
He said there was a sense of normalcy in the region today and the district administration has geared itself with the support of community leaders who were also coming forward.
Dr Singh, who had to visit Kishtwar town today to have a meeting with cross section of people including members of civil society, administration as well as religious heads including the Imams and discuss the situation with them, could not visit there as the weathermen did not permit the flight of chopper due to poor visibility beyond the Patnitop.
This forced the Minister to cut short his visit but he talked with the prominent people including representatives of various religious bodies, political parties and members of civil society on phone who had assembled in the town to meet him.
Dr Singh while congratulating them for maintaining peace despite all provocations by the divisive forces said people of Kishtwar and other parts of Jammu frustrated their designs by not falling in their trap. He expressed the hope that the people will not allow them to succeed in their vicious designs in future too as prevalence of peace was imperative for the development of the State.
On the unrest in the State, Dr Singh said “what is important is to realise that I would not subscribe to the view that this is indigenous, maybe there is a foreign mischief happening in the Valley and they are now trying to disturb the atmosphere in the Jammu region as well,” .
He said additional forces will be deployed as per the requirement of the region.
Praising Rajnath on his recent visit to Pakistan, he said,” it was gratifying that once the Home Minister came back and made a statement in the Parliament, it was unanimously welcomed and the entire House across the party lines was in agreement with the manner the Home Minister handled the situation in Islamabad.”
“The Home Minister has said in Islamabad precisely what he has been reiterating in New Delhi and this reflects the clarity and consistency on part of the Modi Government as far as our approach towards terrorism and handling Pakistan are concerned,” he said.
He further said that Pakistan is gradually getting “isolated” and the entire world community is coming to “India’s point of view so there is a sort of frustration in Pakistan “.
Singh said that non State actors, originated from Pakistani soil were their responsibility.
He said that while Pakistan has created a myth of human rights violations in India, the neighbouring country stands exposed of its human rights records in the areas like PoK, Kargil, Baltistan and Bulochistan which are under its control.
“The world today is worried about the human rights violations happening in parts of Indian sub-continent which are legitimately or illegitimately under the control of Pakistan for example — which is under the control of Pakistan, PoK which is also under its illegal occupation,” the Minister said.
He said there is a strong compelling domestic pressure on Pakistan which forced it to raise bogey of Kashmir. However, Pakistan has been exposed before the world community for exporting terror, he added.
