University–Industry interface to create ecosystem for startups: VC

JAMMU, Feb 5: Jammu University Vice-Chancellor Prof Manoj Dhar today said that the JU is envisaging to create an ecosystem where students, scholars and faculty are in a position to incubate their ideas and University -Industry Interface was an idea to make the university a hub of Innovation and startups.
He said this while interacting with Rahul Sahai, former Chairman, CII and Chairman, TNA, who met the Vice-Chancellor in connection with the University-Industry interface.
Prof Dhar further said that the University-Industry interaction acquires relevance to the extent that the right kind of product i.e. students and scholars are produced. In that direction, he added, it has been made mandatory in the University that every Department identifies the expert/professional from the Industry and make them part of Board of Studies so as to tailor courses to turn out graduates/post graduates, whose skill sets are aligned to Industry requirements.
Rahul Sahai applauded the JU initiative to engage the members of the Industry which will help to bridge the gap between the Industry and the University. He also stressed upon students working culture and explained how University professors can change mindset of students to adopt work culture in J&K. Mr Sahai further said that he will help the University in best possible way and encourage members of the Industry to collaborate with University so that in partnership they are able to identify and groom the students for best opportunities in the UT and the country.
It is pertinent to mention here that University of Jammu has already established three Centres namely University Business Incubation and Innovation Centre, Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Centre, Industry Academia Interface and a section 8 Company named as University of Jammu SPV Foundation for developing a critical mass of industry ready graduates and post graduates. Efforts are being made to develop proper infrastructure to host various activities in this regard.
Among others, Prof K K Kapoor, Prof Parikshat Singh Manhas, Dr B K Bajaj, Dr Anil Gupta and Dr Vinay Thusoo were also present in the meeting.
