NIOS to set up office this month

JAMMU, May 3: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh RK Mathur today called on Union Minister for Environment, Forest, Climate Change, Labour & Employment Bhupender Yadav and Minister of Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi and discussed with them the issues related to their Ministries for the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Sources said the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has granted wildlife clearance for many crucial pending cases in Ladakh.
For this, Mathur thanked Bhupender Yadav.
The Forest Ministry has also agreed to take steps towards strengthening the Indian Forest Services (IFS) officer strength in Ladakh.
“Mathur stressed the need for scientific interventions in understanding the Glaciers of Ladakh and effect of climate change on them to devise suitable developmental strategies,” the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh said.
The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh also discussed the possibility of setting up of ESI hospital as well as providing Medical Mobile Units for benefit of the labourers in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) Chairperson Prof Saroj Sharma also called on RK Mathur in New Delhi today.
“The Lieutenant Governor requested for exploring ways in which NIOS can contribute in education system of Ladakh,” the Office of LG Ladakh said.
Prof Saroj Sharma told Mathur that the NIOS will set up their office in Ladakh during the current month.
Meanwhile, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh also met Union Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi today.
Mathur thanked him for recognition by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for all Government schools of Ladakh.
He requested for intervention in release of degree certificates and migration certificates for students of Ladakh who had studied at Suresh Gyan Vihar University in Jaipur.
He discussed several other issues, including the appointment of Vice-Chancellor for the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS); funding for the adult literacy in Ladakh; the need to provide online education to students; funding for heating facilities in schools during the winters under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme, winter uniforms for students and assistance in providing skill development training, promotion of entrepreneurship and tailor-made skill programmes for the youth from Ladakh.
Mathur requested for continued assistance in providing training programmes for teachers to enable them to adapt to CBSE standards/curriculum.
Sources said Mathur also took up various other issues with the Union Ministers Bhupender Yadav and Dharmendra Pradhan.
