‘Unforgivable crime’: Himachal LoP slams Oppn as women quota amendment bill defeated

SHIMLA, Apr 18: Leader of Opposition in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, Jai Ram Thakur, on Saturday criticised the Congress over the defeat of the women’s quota law amendment bill, saying it has exposed the opposition parties’ anti-women stance and made it clear that they do not support granting women their constitutional rights.

Thakur, while participating in a protest held in Thunag under the Seraj Legislative Assembly Constituency in Mandi, said, “This is not just injustice with the women, but is also an unforgivable crime which will never be forgiven by the people of the country.”

He said, “The Congress has become confined to only one Gandhi family, and it does not want to provide an opportunity to other talented women to come forward in the field of politics; that is why, after a long wait of decades, the right of reservation given to women’s power has today become a victim of their anti-women empowerment politics.”

However, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP will continue to work towards women’s empowerment and will fight for the rights of women, he said. (PTI)
