Unemployed engineers hold protest, project demands

JAMMU, July 30: Demanding redressal to their issues, the unemployed engineers held protest, here today.
Amid slogans, a large number of unemployed engineers assembled near Hari Singh Park under the banner of Unemployed Engineers Association, a state level association working for the upliftment of unemployed engineers since its inception, here and held protest.
While speaking, President, Unemployed Engineers Association J&K Sheraz Ahmed Malik said that various posts of engineers are lying vacant in PHE, I&FC, R&B, Disaster Management Department, Road Transport and Technical Education Department, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic and Communication and Computer Engineering in different departments.
He added that even after the promotions of Junior Engineers as Assistant Engineers, they are holding the charge of Junior Engineers due to non-selection of fresh Junior Engineers and due to non reference of posts to the selection authority for the reasons best known to the department concerned. Despite filing of RTI, the information has not been provided by the departments for non reference of vacancies, he stated.
Malik further said that they qualified engineers are waiting for the advertisement of the posts, but that has not happened and many of them are going over-aged, adding that even MGNREGA (Department of Rural Development) are not advertising the posts of engineers and if they advertise instead of making selection of merit base, they have selected blue eyed persons of politician and no selection has ever been finalized.
He stated that it has been observed that there was nexus of politicians and the officials of the department in non referring the posts of engineers since long and have adjusted only there kiths and kins on contractual or adhoc basis so that they can be regularized after some time without facing any selection process.
In the end, he urged the Governor to immediately advertise the vacant posts of the engineers in various departments.
