Unearthing black money

A major atrocity perpetrated against the nation is that lacs of cores of rupees were grabbed through illegal means and stashed in foreign banks.  The previous Government failed to take any positive step towards the recovery of stolen money. Had their hands been clean, they would have recovered the money and invested it in developmental projects for the nation.
The case is with the Supreme Court which has ordered the Government to constitute Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the black money. The first thing PM Modi’s cabinet did after assuming office was to constitute the SIT with Mr. M.B. Shah, a retired judge of the Supreme Court, as its chairman and Mr. Arijit Pasayat, also a retired Supreme Court judge, as its Vice chairman. Other members of the SIT are Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau, Director General of Revenue Intelligence, Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit and a Joint Secretary in the Central Board of Direct Taxes. The SIT has been charged with the responsibility and duties of investigation, initiation of proceedings and prosecution in cases of Hasan Ali and other matters involving unaccounted money. The SIT will be assisted by the Revenue Secretary, directors of CBI, IB, RAW and ED, the CBDT Chairman and an RBI deputy governor.
Constituting the SIT in its first cabinet meeting shows how seriously the team Modi is interested in pursuing a case that has become a matter of great concern for the entire nation. It is a national issue which the previous Government craftily tried to circumvent because it knew where a probe would land it. Now that the Apex Court and the Union Government both are seized of the matter, we expect that the huge money stolen from the nation will be recovered and invested in some mega projects to create employment for lacs of youth in our country.
