Under-trial dies in Udhampur jail

UDHAMPUR, July 25: An under-trial died in Udhampur District Jail under mysterious circumstances, here this morning.
The deceased was identified as  Abdul Rahim Iqbal Sheikh (28),  son of Iqbal Sheikh  of Mumbai, who was lodged in the jail in case FIR number  268/2011 under Section 8 /20 NDPS Act. He was arrested in 2011 while smuggling 26 kg Charas.
According to the Superintendent of District Jail Udhampur, Rajni Sehgal, massive heart attack was apparent cause of death even as postmortem of the body will be conducted tomorrow.  “While watching television along with other under-trials in their barrack around 9.45 a.m, he (deceased) suddenly collapsed and fell unconscious. He was rushed to District Hospital Udhampur where doctors declared him as brought dead,” she said and added that family members of the deceased have also been informed to reach here.
The postmortem will be conducted tomorrow by a board of doctors and videography of the same will also be done.
Udhampur Police has registered a case in this connection for further investigation.
