UDHAMPUR, May 6: District Administration, Udhampur, has initiated process for City Development Project.
The project envisages revamping urban management, removal of encroachments, widening of roads and provision for civic amenities, relocation of vendors and traffic management in the town.
The project also includes removal of encroachments from holy Devika River and restoration of its pristine glory.
Under traffic management plan, seven bridges will be constructed during the current year to streamline vehicular and pedestrian movement.
In this regard District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary along with Addl DC A S Rana and Commander 35 BRTF Vishal Sharma and senior officers of various departments inspected various locations identified for construction of bridges. They were informed that the process of removal of encroachments from TCP Chowk to Birma Bridge has been finalised after which construction of drains, foot path and blacktopping from Jakheni to Rehmbal would be started. It was further informed that four-lanning of road from TCP Chowk to Broadway Plaza has also been included in the project through BRO.
Two foot bridges under Project Rahat are already under construction at MH Chowk, while a motorable bridge has been approved to be constructed by BRO. Five additional bridges of 15 Meter span each have been finalised to be constructed at MH Chowk, Sports Stadium-Housing Colony, erstwhile Slathia Chowk, Venus Chowk and over holy Devika River in the current financial year.
Blacktopping in the town has already been started and yellow marking of roads will be started in 3rd week of this month. Paid parking will be provided across the town in a regulated manner. Work has also been approved for relocation of vendors for decongesting the city road.
Meanwhile, a 10-member commission headed by Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Anshul Garg, has been appointed for demarcation and identification of encroachments in river Devika in a period of 20 days. DFO DO-SPCB and CEO MC have initiated process for identification of all sources of drainage and waste disposal in river Devika for requisite action under law.
