UDHAMPUR, Aug 13: Udhampur Development Council (UDC) has demanded immediate repair and black topping of Udhampur -Panchari Road, a stretch of 40 km, which is in extremely bad condition.
Addressing the media persons here today, Anil Paba, a social activist and President of UDC alleged that the lives of common men in Panchari and nearby villages like Lander -Karcha, Kainth Gali to Moungari- Khorgali were at stake as the condition of the road was deteriorating day by day.
He explained that a small drainage around 40 years back was allowed to become a nullah, known as ‘Chobu Nullah’ in between Kainthgali and Panchari Road, on which lakhs of rupees have been so far spent on the name of repair without any proper planning thus inviting accidents. “A number of times aerial survey of the site was also conducted but till date no proper steps have been initiated for a permanent solution,” he lamented and added that in the year 1989, the road from Supply Morh to Malti had come under State National Highway with the provision of double lane but it also remained in files only.
“Now the road from Supply Morh to Kainth Gali and Kainth Gali to Panchari, stretching about 40 km, comes under PMGSY and the work was also initiated but later on due to some unknown reasons, the same was suspended from Supply Morh to Kainth Gali. Now this road has been totally washed away due to heavy rains and becomes full of pits while condition of other adjoining roads like Moungari, Kaith Gali to Panchari, Kultyar and onwards is also similar,” he said.
Paba appealed the Governor Satya Pal Malik and district administration to start the road work immediately before any big mishap takes place resulting in loss of lives. He demanded to build concrete road instead of the common bituminous roads to save the lives of innocent common people and also demanded a separate constituency for the area as it becomes the victims of three constituencies viz; Udhampur, Chenani and Reasi.
