SRINAGAR : The authorities today allowed light passenger vehicles from both Srinagar and Jammu on the national highway, the only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country following further improvement in the weather conditions.
However, heavy vehicles will continue to ply one-way till further orders.
A traffic police spokesman said here today that only light passenger vehicles were allowed to ply from summer capital, Srinagar and winter capital Jammu from today. This is for the first time vehicles will ply from both sides on the highway since December last year when it was decided to allow only one-way traffic following heavy snowfall. He said hundreds of heavy vehicles, carrying essentials left Jammu for Srinagar this morning. However, no heavy vehicle was allowed from Kashmir.
