Two more die of Corona in Jammu, 5 in Ladakh

JAMMU, Aug 16: Two more persons died of Coronavirus in Jammu while 208 persons tested positive during last two days including four from family of Mata Vaishno Devi shrine’s ‘Pujari’, a woman Corporator of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and her two family members, a doctor and one MBBS student, two Sub Inspectors — one each posted in Akhnoor police station and Sainik Colony Police Post, two police personnel from SDPO East Office, three family members each from Canal Road and Pacca Danga, five more SSB jawans from Bawa Talab Kanachak, woman-son in Bari Brahamana, couple in Vijaypur and many security personnel.
Both latest Corona casualties were reported from Simbal Camp and Simbal Morh in Jammu district.
A 50-year-old man from Ward No. 2 Simbal Camp was brought dead to the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu and he tested positive for COVID-19, GMC Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh said. He added that another person from Simbal Morh aged 62 suffering from altered sensorium and admitted in the GMC tested positive after death.
Bodies of both the COVID victims were handed over to their family members after packing under due protocol.
Meanwhile, five more Corona related deaths were today reported from the Union Territory of Ladakh including one in Leh-a HIMANK driver and four from Kargil district. With this Ladakh’s Corona toll has gone up to 14-six in Leh and eight in Kargil. Ladakh has also reported 69 new Corona cases during last two days takings its total to 1948 and active cases to 578.
With two more deaths, Jammu region’s Corona toll has gone up to 41 and that of Jammu district to 29. Other deaths have been reported from three in Rajouri, two each in Udhampur, Doda and Poonch districts and one each from Kathua, Ramban and Samba.
A total of 122 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Jammu district during last two days including 70 with no travel history.
A woman Corporator of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), her husband and son tested positive for the virus today and have been shifted to hospital.
Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Bakshi Nagar Amit Sharma led police teams have contained house of the Corporator.
A Sub Inspector posted at Akhnoor police station who had gone to Ludhiana to recover kidnapped girl has also tested Corona positive. SDPO Akhnoor Ajay Sharma said Akhnoor police station has been sealed and all contacts of the Sub Inspector are being subjected to testing for Coronavirus.
Another Sub Inspector posted as Incharge Police Post Sainik Colony has also tested positive. SHO Channi Himmat Inspector Karan Chalotra-led police teams have sealed Sainik Colony Police Post and contacts of the Sub Inspector are being tested for the virus.
Two more police personnel posted in the office of SDPO East whose Reader had died of Coronavirus few days back have also reported positive.
Five more SSB jawans of a battalion deployed at Bawa Talab near Kanachak tested positive. Nearly one and a half dozen jawans of the battalion have so far tested Corona positive.
Three members each of two families from Pacca Danga and Canal Road have also tested positive for COVID-19.
A pre-final year MBBS student of the GMC Jammu staying in Girls Hostel and a resident of Kathua and another doctor from Bantalab too reported positive for the virus.
A three-year-old female child tested positive in Kachi Chawni. Other positives of Jammu district hailed from Raipur, Roop Nagar, Sainik Colony, Dream City, Miran Sahib, Talab Tillo, Paloura, Sidhra, Nagrota, Gandhi Nagar, RS Pura, Janipura, Muthi, Gangyal, Digiana, Bhagwati Nagar, Greater Kailash, Ambphalla, Bishnah, Rehari, Barnai and Bakshi Nagar.
Three family members of Mata Vaishno Devi’s Pujari and his one cook tested Coronavirus positive in Reasi district. A sanitation worker of Shiv Khori Shrine Board, who is a resident of Pouni, also reported positive. A total of 12 persons have tested positive in Reasi district during last two days.
Two police personnel from the District Police Lines (DPL) and a pregnant woman from Hatli were among 18 persons who tested positive for the virus in Kathua district, District Magistrate OP Bhagat said.
One positive case each was reported from Ward No. 3, Dhar Dugnoo Billawar and Ward No. 13 Basohli. Rest of the positives were traveler.
Twenty one persons have tested positive in Samba district during last two days including eight security personnel, five hailing from ITBP and one each from BSF, JKP and SSB, SSP Samba Shakti Pathak said.
A woman and her son from Ward No. 10 Bari Brahamana, a couple in Vijaypur, shopkeeper from Sangwal, driver from Ward 5 Budhwani Mohalla and a West Bengal resident were among the other positives of Samba district.
In Poonch district, 12 persons tested COVID positive in last two days. Three of them hailed from Potha Surankote, one from Ward No. 10 Poonch, one each from Lassana and Jhallas while one was a Bihari labourer. Other positives of the district were travelers, SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said.
In Udhampur district, seven persons were tested positive for Coronavirus during last 48 hours.
One of them was an Army jawan from Dhar Road, a worker from Ramnagar, traveler from Ghordi and one each hailing from Garhi, Barmeen, Dudhar Nullah and Udhampur.
Six persons tested positive for the virus in Doda district during last two days, three of whom were contacts of positive persons, all residents of Gandoh, two with travel history of Kashmir and a resident of Assar.
Only eight persons were reported COVID positive in Rajouri and one each in Kishtwar and Ramban districts during last two days.
As many as 227 Corona patients were treated and discharged in Jammu region during last two days.
With today’s positives, Jammu region has 6377 Corona cases. Of them, 1594 are active cases as 4742 others have recovered from the virus and were discharged. There have been 41 Corona casualties in Jammu region.
