SHOPIAN, Apr 18: Two alleged drug peddlers were arrested with over 5 kilograms of charas-like substance in Shopian town today.
A police official said that during naka checking at Zainapora-Bijbehara road near Naghad, a team of Police Post Wachi observed a person moving under suspicious circumstances.
He was apprehended and put to search, he said, adding that 650 grams of charas-like substance was recovered from his possession.
Accordingly, he was arrested and booked in case FIR number 59/2026 under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Zainapora, said the police official.
Meanwhile, the police official said that in a separate operation, a party of Police Station Imamsahib, during routine naka checking near Bismillah Automobiles, intercepted an auto load carrier (JK033B-8537).
During search of the vehicle, he said 4.508 kilograms of charas-like substance was recovered from the possession of one Mohammad Ashraf Reshi, a resident of Reshipora, Zainapora.
Consequently, he was arrested and booked in case FIR number 21/2026 under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Police Station Imamsahib, said the police official.
Further investigation in both the cases is underway to establish the forward and backward linkages and to dismantle the broader drug network involved, he said.
