JAMMU, Aug 25: Two-day seminar on Dogri Short Story, jointly organized by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi and PG Department of Dogri, University of Jammu, began here today.
The seminar was inaugurated by Prof Kesav Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, JU, in presence of prominent Dogri writer Padma Shri Ved Ghai, Prof. Lalit Mangotra, Convener, Dogri Advisory Board in Sahitya Akademi; Chattrapal, a well known Dogri Short-Story writer; Prof. Sushma Sharma, Head of the Dogri Department and Devender Kumar Davesh, Officer on Special Duty, Sahitya Akademy.

Prof Keshav Sharma, in his inaugural address, said that Dogri language is taking great strides forward and added that it was the result of joint efforts of all that Dogri is included in 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution and is being taught in colleges and schools.
Prof. Ved Ghai, in her presidential address, said Dogri Short Story has come a long way since nineteen forties, when first short story of Dogri was penned down by Bhagwat Prasad Sathe.
Earlier, Prof. Lalit Mangotra, while introducing the topic and tracing the history of Dogri Short Story, said that mainstream Dogri Short Story has always been connected to the social and political issues of Dogra environment and the travails and problems of the common masses. The psychological and emotional issues arising out of the interaction of changing environment and their influence on the masses have been well depicted in Dogri Short-Stories, he added.
Chatterpal, in his thought provoking keynote address, highlighted the milestones which Dogri Short-Story has covered in its literary journey. He said Dogri Short-Story, today, stands proudly among stories of other Indian languages. He laid stress on need to translate Dogri Short Stories in English – Hindi and other Indian languages.
Sahitya Akademi representative Devender Kumar Davesh gave a brief information about the forthcoming programmes of the Akademi.
In her valedictory address, Prof. Sushma Sharma, threw light on the outreach programmes of the Dogri Department to popularize Dogri language among masses.
The inaugural session was followed by two paper reading sessions presided over by Prof. N.D. Sharma an N.D. Jamwal respectively. The scholars and writers who presented papers on various aspects of Dogri Short Story, include Dr Padam Dev Singh, Sunita Bhadwal, Dr Joginder Singh, Krishan Sharma, Radha Rani and Nirmal Vikram.
