Two commit suicide, four others make abortive attempts

JAMMU, May 19: Two persons including a 23-year-old youth of Akhnoor committed suicide while four others made abortive attempt on their lives in city and its outskirts.
According to a police spokesperson, a youth identified as Shubhum Kumar son of Preetam Chand, a resident of Dagah in Akhnoor tehsil, today consumed some poisonous substance in the wee hours at his residence. In unconscious condition family members rushed him to Government Hospital Akhnoor, from where he was immediately referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu, where he passed away while treatment.
The body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites after completing all medico-legal formalities. The Akhnoor police has also taken cognizance of the matter.
A 20-year-old girl namely Nandini Sharma (20) daughter of Satish Sharma, a resident of Toph (Paloura) hanged self with the hook of the ceiling fan at her residence, this morning. As soon as the family members noticed her hanged, they rushed her to GMCH Jammu, where she was declared as brought dead by the doctors. After conducting postmortem, the body of the deceased was handed over to her legal heirs for last rites. A case in this connection has been registered at police station Janipur and further investigations started.
Meanwhile, three men identified as Gyan Chand son of Ram Chand of Jourian, Sunhash Chowdhary son of Mohinder Lal of RS Pura and Satyadev (28) son of Shiv Nath of Dehaarn also made abortive attempts on their lives by consuming some poisonous substances at their respective residences. A 27-year-old girl namely Shallu Sharma daughter of Narinder Pal of RS Pura also made an abortive attempt on her life by hanging self at her residence. All the four are presently being treated at GMCH Jammu. In all these cases, the concerned police have taken cognizance of the matter.
