TVs, refrigerators damaged due to PDD’s negligence

JAMMU, Jan 24: The electronic gadgets worth lakhs of the people from Gajansoo area of March block near Jammu were damaged due to alleged negligence of Power Develop-ment Department (PDD) staff this afternoon.
Sources said that incident took place when the PDD staff was engaged at work  of shifting a pole in the area. They had sought the help of a JCB also for operation. During the process the pole fell on high tension wires passing through that area.  The sudden flow of high voltage of power to the houses and shops of the people in the area caused extensive damage to many TVs, refrigerators and other electric/electronic gadgets of the people. Even, some of  the electronic equipment caught fire. The fire also burnt the curtains at some houses where people controlled the fire.
Former MLA  and senior NC leader Ajay Sadhotra when came to know about the matter,  visited several houses and took stock of the situation. He talked to Divisional Commissioner Jammu  and demanded probe into the mater.
He also demanded that public should be compensated by the PDD authorities and an FIR should be registered against the concerned staff responsible for the lapse.  Sadhotra said that PDD staff should have taken shut down before launching such work. It is gross negligence on their part, he added.
