Srinagar, Mar 15: Residents of Tulmullah in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district voiced their frustration today as they staged a protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) authorities over a sudden surge in monthly electricity tariffs.
Expressing their grievances, residents highlighted that while other areas are charged Rs. 1040 per month, they have been subjected to escalating tariffs, now reaching over Rs. 1560 per month.
“The electricity supply is unreliable, and now we are burdened with bills that lack justification,” residents exclaimed.
They warned that if the situation persists, they will refuse to pay the bills and demand the withdrawal of electricity services from the area altogether.
“For domestic purposes, we are being charged exorbitant amounts, despite our modest incomes. If the PDD insists on these unjust bills, we are prepared to live without electricity as we have done before,” protesters asserted.
Residents urged the authorities to reconsider the billing system and ensure a fair and consistent monthly charge based on actual usage.
“We are willing to pay Rs. 1040, as we have been doing, but the bills must reflect our household consumption accurately,” they emphasized.
