JAMMU, Mar 15: Jammu Kashmir Pensioners and Senior Citizens Welfare Society has urged the Government to release the DA installment in favour of UT Government and pensioners on the pattern of Central Government.
The Association chief, Mir Ghulam Rasool Batvini in a statement issued here, today said that the rising prices have broken the back of working class especially the pensioners who in old age need money to fight out the various ailments. Mir appealed Lt Governor to look into the issue and release the DA installment in favour of the pensioners and Government employees without delay.
He also demanded enhancement of Medical Allowance (MA) from Rs 300 to Rs 1000 per month in favour of employees and pensioners. He demanded that the withheld dues in favour of retired employees of J&K Cements be also released immediately as they are running from pillar to post for last four years for the same and some families among them are on the verge of starvation.
Mir also expressed serious concern over exorbitant hike in power tariff by Power Department and said that a poor family is unable to pay such a huge amount as power tariff. He said in a welfare State the Government is bound to give some relaxation and concession to the people and demanded that the decision of hike in power tariff be revoked and instead the arrears on account of power bills lying against big industrialists, business houses etc be recovered to meet out the revenue loss.
