Trucker operating drugs cartel arrested with 25 kgs poppy straw

JAMMU, May 27: Gangyal police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ arrested a trucker for operating a drugs cartel and seized 25 kilograms of poppy straw from his vehicle.
As per police sources, on reliable information about drugs smuggling, a team from Gangyal Police Station laid a naka at Kunjwani Chowk and signaled a truck bearing registration number JK21-5695, which was coming from Narwal and was heading towards Bari Brahmana to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the cops intercepted the truck after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 25 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested the trucker.
The arrested person has been identified as Sethi Ram, son of Ghari Lal, a resident of Bhalwal, tehsil Ramgarh, district Samba.
During questioning, the accused trucker disclosed that he had brought the consignment from Srinagar for selling among the youth to make illegitimate profits.
With his arrest, police thwarted the nefarious designs of the accused to make the youth drug addict and to ruin their future.
A case under FIR Number 48/18 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Gangyal and hunt has been launched to nab other members of the drugs cartel.
Police team led by SHO Gangyal SI Nayat Ali made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, SP South Sandeep Choudhary and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
