Trucker, associate held with poppy straw

JAMMU, Dec 16: Police arrested a trucker and his associate along with 20 kilograms of poppy straw (bhukki) near Police Auditorium on Jammu University road.
As per police sources, on specific information, police team from Gandhi Nagar police station and Nehru Market police post jointly laid a naka near Police Auditorium on Jammu University road and signaled a truck bearing registration number JK02W-3833 to stop for checking.
On seeing police team, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape from the spot, but the cops chased and intercepted the vehicle near some distance from the naka point.
During checking of the vehicle, police recovered 20 kilograms of poppy straw (bhukki) and arrested the driver and his associate.
The accused have been identified as Mohammad Iqbal, son of Shahzamam of Boru, Anantnag and Altaf Ahmad, son of Bashir Ahmad of Ashmukam, Anantnag, both presently residing at Khanpur Nagrota.
A case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gandhi Nagar police station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Gandhi Nagar police station Inspector Bishnesh Kumar along with Incharge Nehru Market police post SI Balram Sharma made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Sachin Gupta, SP South Shaazad Salaria and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
