Truck plunges into canal; driver dies, helper escapes unhurt

JAMMU, Nov 7: A driver was killed while the helper escaped unhurt as truck they were travelling in skidded off and fell into a canal outside Indian Air Force gate in Satwari area here.
Defence sources said that the IAF men immediately swung into action and launched rescue operation.
They added that at about 1805 hours a civil truck toppled at a sharp turning at Fourth Tawi Bridge-Military Hospital- Satwari, near Air Force Station Gate and fell into the canal.
“Immediately the IAF emergency team swung into action and Garud Commandoes were launched for the rescue operation in which the driver could be rescued immediately”, the sources further said adding that the cleaner of vehicle jumped and safely swam out of canal himself.
They stated that the SDRF also reached at the site of accident at 1910 hours and thereafter collectively progressed.
The rescued driver later succumbed to his injuries at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu.
A case under relevant sections has been registered at Satwari Police Station and investigation started.
