Tributes paid to GL Dogra at PCC Minority Wing convention

JAMMU, Nov 27: Rich tributes were paid to former minister and veteran Congress leader GL Dogra at  one day convention of PCC Minority wing held here today.
Senior AICC leader and MP Rajya Sabha Shamsher Singh Dullo was the chief guest while AICC Minority Department vice chairman PS Bawa was guest of honour and president PCC GA Mir presided over the convention organized by Minority Wing of PCC under the chairmanship of Jahangir Mir, Dy Chairman Legislative Council.
Senior PCC leaders Sham Lal Sharma, CLP Leader Nawang Rigzin Jora, Raman Bhalla, Ravinder Sharma, Shabir Khan, S. Manjit Singh, Vikram Malhotra, SS Channi, Ch Shahnawaz also attended, besides functionaries of Minority Wing, S Gurdarshan Singh and Gajan Singh-chairman Jammu province.
Rich tributes were  paid to former minister and veteran congress leader GL Dogra on his death anniversary. Two minutes’ silence was observed by the   participants, as a mark of respect to the leader.
Senior Congress leader and MP Shamsher Singh Dullo criticized the policies and philosophy of Modi Govt and BJP which has made the minorities in this country apprehensive and feel insecure. He said that Congress always represented each and every section of the pluralistic Indian society, as the strength of this nation lies in secularism. He said that the agenda of the divisive forces is dangerous for our nation.
He further said that Congress under leadership of Sonia Gandhi offered opportunity to a great economist Dr Manmohan Singh belonging to minority as Prime Minister. He said  that persons from minority have always been promoted by Congress at highest positions in this country. Dullo, who is former PCC president from Punjab said that Congress would return to power in Punjab in the next Assembly elections and Akali-BJP are on their way out.
PCC chief  Mir appreciated the minority wing of the party for organizing the large convention representing all minority sections from all over the province. The presence of representatives of all communities under the umbrella of Congress makes it a distinct party which has a secular approach and outlook and its policies are based on mutual co-existence of all & equal opportunities for all, irrespective of caste, creed, colour or religion, he said.
Referring to the current crises on account of hardships due to demonetization without adequate arrangements, Mir said that Congress and entire opposition is duty bound to highlight the miseries and hardships resulting into numerous deaths. He said that Congress party would fight against the communal and divisive forces and anti-poor policies of the Modi Govt.
AICC Minority Dept vice chairman Bawa referred to the Congress party’s secular approach and respect towards the minorities and said that it was during Dr Manmohan Singh’s regime that a separate Minority Affairs Ministry was created besides launching of various schemes for the welfare of minorities in the country.
Jahangir Mir, chairman PCC Minority Deptt said that Congress policies have always taken care of all sections and people of different faiths which is strength of our country in diversity. He thanked the leadership & participants for making the convention a grant success.
Sham Lal Sharma, Rigzin Jora, Raman Bhalla and others also addressed the gathering.
Earlier,  a resolution was passed in the convention demanding setting up a minority commission in the state. It also demanded that a modal officer be appointed to coordinate the percolation & implementation of various schemes by the Centre so that the benefits reach to deserving people.
