JAMMU, Nov 27: Glowing tributes were paid to former Minister and veteran Congress leader Girdhari Lal Dogra on his 29 death anniversary here, today.
In this connection a grand function was organized at Girdhari Lal Dogra Chowk here, today by Girdhari Lal Dogra Memorial Trust.
The tributes were paid by former Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh, Speaker State Assembly, Kavinder Gupta, Minister of Industries and Commerce Chander Parkash Ganga, BJP State president, Sat Sharma (CA), MLA Rajiv Jasrotia, provincial president National Conference provincial president Devender Rana, Ex MLA Kanta Singh besides the trustees including Nidi Sharma daughter of Girdhari Lal Dogra, Ram Krishan Dogra and Omparkash Dogra.
While paying floral tributes to Late Dogra, these leaders highlighted his role in freedom struggle as well as post independence period. They termed late Dogra as Messaih of poor and downtrodden who served the people in various capacities till his last breath.
Dr Farooq Abdullah described him as a legendary politician who worked tirelessly for upliftment of poor and progress of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Dogra Sahib has left an indelible mark of public service and he continues to be remembered as a towering leader for his tremendous connect with the masses”, Dr Abdullah said while leading people in offering tributes to the late leader on his 29th death anniversary.
Dr Abdullah said that Dogra was among the few leaders of the State whose contribution towards its development is remembered even now. “As a true democrat, he had earned a niche for himself and endeared so much among the people that he never lost any election”, the former Chief Minister said, adding that he was an institution in himself, who worked till his last breath to ensure that whoever knocks at his door, gets justice. His reach out to the people had been exemplary, he maintained.
“Such people are rare, who keep aside politics and treat everyone equal, irrespective of caste, creed, colour or regional affiliation”, the NC President said, adding that he will always remain an inspiration for younger generation of political activists, who really want to serve the people and the state by giving their best. He said Dogra Sahib had unflinching faith in secularism and all his life he worked for strengthening the bonds of amity and brotherhood between various segments of society.
Paying tributes to Dogra, Provincial President Devender Singh Rana said history will always remember him as a dedicated, self-less and public spirited leader, who envisioned Jammu and Kashmir as a peaceful abode for all, irrespective of their regional or religious affiliations.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah and others paid floral tributes to the legendary leader in presence of his younger daughter, Mrs. Nidhi Dogra.
In connection with the celebration of the death anniversary of Late Dogra a function was also organized by the Trust at Government Higher Secondary School Hiranagar where 1000 blankets were distributed among the students of the School as well as the students of Arya Samaj School by the Trustees. The function was attended by Mrs Manju Singh and the trustees including Nidhi Dogra, Ram Krishan Dogra, Omparkash Dogra, Vinod Dogra and Nipun Sharma.
In addition to this a function was held at Girdhari Lal Dogra Degree College Hiranagar also where 100 orphan and students coming from low income group families were given scholarships.
The function was also attended by MLA Kathua, Rajiv Jasrotia, MLA Hiranagar Kuldeep Raj, District president BJP, Prem Nath Dogra , Mahila Morcha president Purnima Sharma and Bharat Sharma, National Executive Member, BJYM and others.
