JAMMU, June 1: Ambedkar Club remembered martyr Bhagat Amar Nath on his Shaheedi Divas in a function held today at Ambedkar School, Kabir Nagar, Talab Tillo, Jammu.
The function started with floral tributes to portrait of Shaheed Bhagat Amar Nath after which various speakers expressed their views on life history and contribution of Bhagat Amar Nath, who throughout his life worked for the rights of downtrodden, poor, dalits and backward people.
The speakers said that it is due to struggle and martyrdom of Bhagat Amar Nath that Government of J&K implemented the provision of reservation in the State.
It is pertinent to mention here that Bhagat Amar Nath and his associates sat on hunger strike in front of civil Secretariat on May 21, 1970 demanding implementation of reservation rules in the State and on June 1, 1970 he breathed at SMGS Hospital, Jammu after his condition deteriorated.
