JAMMU, Oct 21: Rich and floral tributes were paid to Maharaja Gulab Singh, the first Dogra ruler of Jammu and Kashmir, on his 222th birth anniversary.
In this connection, a grand function was organized in Shri Raghunath ji Temple by the Dharmarth Trust J&K. While paying his tributes to the founder of the Dharmarth Trust, the president of Trust Maj Gen (Retd) R S Jamwal said that the great Maharaja’s rule was a glorious period of Jammu and Kashmir Kingdom. Maharaja Gulab Singh had founded the Dharmarth Trust to provide better facilities to the pilgrims and to maintain various temple and shrines, he said adding that this Trust has become an institution of its kind.
On the occasion, a Hawan was performed and a large number of pilgrims including the official and the staff of the Dharmarth Trust offered Puran Aahuti. Later Prasaad was offered to the gathering.
Jammu Province People’s Forum (JPPF), an amalgam of more than 50 social, commercial and other organizations also celebrated 222nd birth anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh and paid him rich tributes.
Speakers on the occasion, demanded rechristening of Jammu University and Jammu Airport in the name of Maharaja Gulab Singh as a tribute to the great hero of the State.
M S Katoch, working president of JPPF, said that it was very unfortunate that history of Dogra rulers has gradually been deleted and not even a single day is observed in the name of great heroes of Jammu and Kashmir, who in fact founded this beautiful State.
