KOLKATA, June 1: Ahead of formal launching of the two-nation bus service by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina from Dhaka this weekend, the trial run for Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala bus service began today from international bus terminus in the city here here.
West Bengal Transport Department Principal Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay flagged off the first trial run of the 45-seat bus, which would take around 18 hours to reach Dhaka, from Salt Lake Mr Modi, who is expected to make his first official visit to Bangladesh as the Prime Minister this weekend, is slated to formally launch the two-nation bus service on June 6.
The fare of the bus service, which would make Kolkata-Agartala closer, is around Rs 1825 for per person. Mr Bandyopadhyay said the service connecting Kolkata to Agartala via Dhakaon wheels will open a new horizon between people of both the neighbouring countries and northeast part of India.
“This is the first step to open economic windows in the South and South East ASEAN region,” he said after the bus began journey for Dhaka with officials of the West Bengal State Transport Corporation.
The bus will have a day’s stop in Dhaka and tomorrow will leave Dhaka for Agartala. India and Bangladesh had completed a trial run of the Dhaka-Shillong-Guwahati bus service. (UNI)
