Transporters threaten to go on indefinite strike

JAMMU, July 25: The transporters  from J&K state have threatened to go on indefinite strike if the State Administration failed to resolve their pending issues within a week.
A meeting of the transporters representing various unions of buses, mini-buses, trucks, tankers, taxies/ tempo-travelers,  auto-rikshaws etc was held here today under the chairmanship of T S Wazir, chairman, All J&K Transport Welfare Association. During meeting various speakers showed strong resentment over the attitude of previous Govt   and alleged that it failed to solve the pending issues of the transporters despite meeting with the then Chief Secretary,  Transport Minister and former Chief Minister.
They said the Association is demanding revision of passenger fare and freight charges of goods since long. The previous Govt only gave false assurances and done nothing in this regard.  In this connection a Dare Standing Committee was also held on June 20, 2018 under Commissioner/ Secretary Finance but no notification has been issued so far.
Wazir said on July 20, All Indian Motor Transport Congress gave strike call but public transport vehicles in J&K did not join them in view of ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. The State Govt has been forcing the  transporters to launch agitation. Wazir  urged upon the Governor’s Administration to resolve their pending issue within one week otherwise transporters will be forced to launch indefinite strike there after, The inconvenience to the pilgrims and public will be the responsibility of Govt, he added.
