Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Oct 27: The transporters have warned to go on indefinite strike in near future if the Government fails to address their pending issues within two weeks.
In a meeting of all the transporters of the State held here today under the banner of J&K Transport Welfare Association and leadership of  TS Wazir, chairman of the Association, the members expressed serious concern over the attitude of the Government towards the pending issues of the transporters. The meeting was also attended by the heads/ representatives of various commercial transport vehicles associations including buses, mini-buses/ matadors, trucks, tankers, taxies and auto-rikshaws.
They alleged that this Government was sucking the blood of the transporters / operators as it has increased rate of taxes/ fees / insurance etc by more than 100 % which never happened in last many decades. The Transport Unions/ Associations approached State Government/ senior officers  for seeking withdrawal of such a sharp hike in taxes/ fee etc and also sought amnesty scheme for Passenger Tax, withdrawal of speed governors but nothing has been done expect false assurances.
Not only this,  Transport Commissioner and Regional Transport Officer, Jammu are implementing unnecessary so many rules on the transporters  of Jammu province. The transporters  are paying double fitness fee for those vehicles gone beyond the age of 15 years. They are being forced for  installing speed governors, reflector tape by single company. Moreover, Govt is hell bent upon introducing OLA cab in J&K, which is strongly opposed by local transporters.
They said that if their demands are not addressed within two weeks, the transporters will be forced to adopt agitational path.   They appealed the Chief Minister and Dy Chief Minister to solve their pending issues without any more delay.
