Sir,
It is a matter of relief that transporters have agreed to defer their strike for a fortnight following some assurances given by the Government in respect of hiking the fares.
No body can dispute the logic put forth by the transporters that they were at times finding it unprofitable to ply their vehicles due to increase in the cost of fuel as also the spare parts and other ancillary expenses but the way they ensured complete halt to normal life in the shape of mobility of the people on Sept 30 cannot be appreciated.
The strike resulted in putting, among others, the visiting Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims, women and children to a lot of inconvenience. The problem got compounded by Government’s total failure in providing some skelton services for ferrying people. It is hoped that in future, the Government keeps itself ready with plans to remove the hardship to the people in such exigencies and negotiate with the transporters to increase the fares proportionately to the rise in fuel prices and not as per their whims.
Yours etc…
