JAMMU, Mar 12: Minister for Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution and Transport Ch. Mohammad Ramzan today said that the Government would explore the possibility to involve the private transporters in the transportation of CA&PD food grain to various parts of the State.
“We are keen to support the transporters, particularly small and medium firms, in the promotion of their trade and for the purpose the State Government will provide them ample opportunity to ferry food grain from capital districts to far-flung and remote areas”, the Minister said, while speaking at a meeting of representatives of Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) workers and transporters of Jammu province, here today.
Secretary CA&PD and Transport, Abbas Dar, Director, CA&PD, Jammu, Pervez Malik, Managing Director, J&K, SRTC also attended the meeting.
He said, although SRTC was the prime agency entrusted with the transportation of food grains from one part of the State to other, but the Government was not averse to engage the private transporters.
Ramzan said that the private transporters too have a major role to play in meeting the demands of trucks for the purpose.
However, the Minister asked all the stakeholders connected with the trade to strictly adhere to the norms laid down by the Government when provided the opportunity to contribute in the enormous exercise of transportation of food grains.
Earlier, the representatives of the transport agencies apprised the Minister about various burning issues confronting them.
The Minister assured that the Government will examine their demands and would try to find a viable solution of the problems faced to them.
