Train women for waste management

Sir
This is in response to article published in Daily Excelsior “Waste Management needs behavioral change” by Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhatt ( 16.7.2018). I live on a bank of irrigation canal. My heart bleeds when I see large number of women emptying their kitchen trash bins in the canal located in my mohalla. Men are hardly seen doing this.
In this regard I want to emphasize that in order to create a change in our behavior , we need to train, educate  and sensitize our women who are directly involved in kitchen work. Most of the organic waste is generated in our kitchens and our women have a habit of mixing this kitchen waste with plastic and polythene with the result its treatment is impossible.
This mixed waste emits foul smell when dumped unscientifically. It is urged upon NGOs and municipalities to train women in various colonies and at mohalla level. They must be taught about waste segregation and its treatment. This will lead to change in their behaviour which will be helpful for the society at large.
