KATHUA, June 9: The train traffic was disturbed on Jammu-Pathankote Railway track this afternoon for one hour after one Gujjar, his four buffalos and four cows were crushed by DMU at Magarkhad near Jagatpur near here.
According to reports Dulla Gujjar was crossing the railway track along with his cattle in Magarkhad when the DMU was to pass from the track. The train hit Gujjar, his four buffalos and four cows while other cattle had managed to cross the railway track. The driver of the DMU however had applied the emergency brake but due to sharp curve he could not judge in advance that the cattle were passing the tack.
Later Railway authorities, SSP Railway and SSP Kathua as well as civil administration visited the spot. The dead body and cattle were removed from the track. However the train traffic remained disrupted for one hour.
The Railway Police Station Govindsar has registered a case and started investigation.
The SSP Railway said that the driver of DMU told him that he could not judge that cattle and buffalos were crossing the track as it was a sharp curve at that spot. He said the Gujjar could have save himself seeing the train but he tried to rescue his cattle and buffalos and died himself also.
However the incident has evoked a sharp public resentment against Railways for their gross negligence.
