RAMBAN, Sept 23: The vehicular traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH) was suspended for over three hours after landslide blocked the busy highway near Banihal this evening.
Official sources said that due to landslide near Shelgarhi, in Banihal area at around 5.45 pm on Saturday, the traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway came to halt. There was no rain in the area but due to road widening work, the loose rocks suddenly fell down on the road. The road users remained lucky as no mishap took place there.
A large number of vehicles remained stranded on the busy highway for over three hours. The NHAI pressed JCB/ machines into restoration work and cleared the highway at around 9 pm. The traffic was then resumed on this highway.
