POONCH, Oct 23: The traffic on Mughal Road was suspended this afternoon by the authorities after fresh snowfall in the high altitude areas of Pir Panjal including Peer- ki- Gali.
The traffic was suspended around 4 pm on the Mughal road, connecting the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu with Shopian district of south Kashmir, as a precautionary measure in view of fresh snowfall in Peer- ki-Gali and adjoining areas along the road, SDPO Surankote Mohd Reyaz said.
He said the rain and snowfall began in the afternoon and intensified later, rendering the road unsafe for movement of vehicular traffic.
Reyaz said the traffic was stopped at Behramgalla and Bafliaz in Surankote area and no vehicle is being allowed to move further towards Kashmir, of this side.
The SDPO said it was snowing even in the evening and once the weather improves and the road is cleared, the stranded vehicles will be allowed to move towards their destinations tomorrow. The road is slippery especially near the Pir Panjal pass and some of the vehicles said to have been stranded. The Army and police assistance was sent to pull out the vehicles and rescue passengers.
