JAMMU, Oct 23: The strike of doctors and other para-medical staff continued on the 4th consecutive day in District Hospital Reasi, in protest against the illegal detention of a senior doctor in Police Station on the verbal directions of Deputy Commission, Prasanna Ramaswamy.
While the work in OPD, Operation Theatre, Wards and Labs remained suspended, the staff exempted the Emergency unit of the Hospital from the purview of the on going strike. The striking doctors said that they had given 48 hours ultimatum to the District Administration to tender apology from the aggrieved Dr Ashwani Kumar Bhagat (Consultant Ortho) but that time is over now. They have warned the State Administration to take action against the DC Reasi, otherwise, the state wide agitation would be intensified by the doctors.
Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA), New Delhi while condemning the behaviour of DC Reasi Prasanna Ramasway has urged upon the State Governor S P Malik and Chief Secretary J&K to take serious note of the issue and take appropriate action in this regard. It said such unwarranted and unjustified act on the part of District Administrator, smells high amount to arrogance and misuse of power.
Doctors Association Jammu (DAJ) has appealed Governor, SP Malik to intervene into the matter of illegal confinement of Dr Ashwani by the police on verbal orders of DC Reasi. The Association president, Dr Balvinder Singh, said that for last three days, doctors of District Hospital Reasi are on strike but no action has been taken against DC Reasi.
“Doctors want to work and cannot see more suffering of the patients but doctors themselves are suffering due to VIP culture and are working in extreme mental trauma”, Dr Balvinder said, adding if their demands are not met, all peripheral hospitals of Jammu Division will go on strike from Thursday.
