Traffic restored on NH after 22 hrs

RAMBAN, Oct 11: The traffic on Jammu- Srinagar National Highway was restored after 22 hours this afternoon.
The highway at Mehar near Ramban was blocked at around 5 pm on Thursday. The road widening work for the 4-laning of the highway was in progress when the sliding took place. M/S Gammon India has sublet the work to the local contractor.

There was no rain in the area on Thursday. Suddenly, about 100 meters stretch of the road was affected with the land sliding. There after continued shooting stones and boulders posed threat to the restoration work. It affected the road clearance operation for long. More than 3000 vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the blockade zone on the highway. The highway could be restored at around 3.15 pm today and stranded passenger vehicles towards Jammu were allowed first.
