Traffic remained suspended on NH for 10 hours

JAMMU, Apr 20: After landslides at two places near Ramban during morning hours, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for about ten hours today while no movement of traffic will be allowed on this highway tomorrow in view of maintenance work.
Official sources said that due to land slides at Mehar and Cafetria Morh near Ramban the highway was blocked at around 4 am today. With this, the movement of vehicles on this busy highway came to halt. The restoration work was launched by the NHAI and local agency at around 8 am and the highway could be restored only at around 2 pm. It took much time by removing a few big boulders from the highway, the sources added.
A large numer of vehicle remained stranded on both sides of these points on highway for about ten hours. After highway clearance , the movement of vehicles on both sides was allowed. Massive traffic jam was wintesed in Ramsu, Ramban, Nashri, Chanderkote and Chenani area for hours together, the sources said.
A senuior Traffic Police official said that efforts were on to clear all the stranded vehicles on both sides tonight as no movement of traffic on Jammu-Srinagar highway will be allowed on Wednesday in view of repair/ maintenance work on the highway as already announced by the NHAI officials.
