SRINAGAR : Traffic on the national highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was suspended following militant attack on a Border Security Force (BSF) convoy resulting in death of two personnel and injuries to two others.
Vehicles, carrying Amarnath pilgrims from Jammu to Kashmir have been stopped at several places between Samroli and Batote, where additional security forces had been deployed for their security.
Traffic on the highway was suspended as a precautionary measure after militants attacked the BSF convoy in the wee hours at Udhampur in Jammu region.
A massive search operation has been launched in the entire area to nab the militants involved in the attack. However, some reports said that one of the militants has been killed while others have taken some locals hostage and are holed up in a nallah.
Vehicles, including those carrying passengers were also stopped at Udhampur and other places to allow security forces to conduct thorough search operation.
For security reasons, vehicles carrying Amarnath pilgrims from Jammu to Baltal and Nunwan base camps have also been stopped.
It will take few more hours to allow yatri and other vehicles to proceed towards Kashmir, official sources said.
Similarly, vehicles which were also on way to Jammu from Kashmir have been stopped at different places, they added.
However, traffic on historic Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region was through. (AGENCIES)
