JAMMU, Apr 27: Cracking down heavily on the firewood smuggling, Forest Department seized a tractor trolley carrying illegal firewood from Serbal area of holy town Katra.
On receipt of complaint from the locals about illegally smuggling of firewood in Serbal area, a team of forest officials under the supervision of Range Officer Katra Munish Gupta led by Block Officer Bhaga Subash Chander including forest guards Madan Lal, Nishant and Susheel Sharma under the instructions of DFO Reasi Dr Sayeed Nadeem Hussain swung into action and seized a tractor trolley bearing registration number JK20-2536 loaded with illegal fire wood.
The driver of the tractor trolley identified as Sohan Lal, son of Gogu Ram of Jajjar Kotli was taken into custody, while as the owner of firewood managed to escape from the spot.
Having no transport permission of firewood forced the officials to seize the tractor under Forest Act 1987 (1930 AD).
The case will be presented before the DFO Reasi who has the authority to decide the case after going through the graveness of committed crime.
