RS PURA, May 20: Congress leader and DDC Member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony here today led a protest demonstration against the power shortage and steep hikes in electricity bills burdening the farmers.
The protestors gathered in front of the office of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) RS Pura and raised slogans in favour of their demand of proper electricity supply.
Addressing the protesters, Tony claimed that unscheduled power cuts have disrupted the lives and livelihoods of farmers as well as general public in the border villages.
“While the farmers are facing the financial distress, the Electricity Department has unexpectedly raised electricity bills as earlier the farmers used to receive electricity bills of Rs. 300 to Rs. 500 which has now surged by 200 per cent which is unbearable,” the Congress leader stated.
