Tibet’s H1 tourism revenue surges 30 pc in first half of 2015

BEIJING, July 21:  With 5.3 million tourists in the first half of this year, Tibet’s tourism revenue has increased by 30 per cent amounting over USD 800 million.
Tourism revenue has surged 30 per cent in the first half of 2015 boosted by a 26.7 per cent increase in visitors to the region during the same period, Tibet’s tourism authority said.
Some 5.3 million people from China and overseas visited Tibet in the first six months of this year, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Tourism revenue rose 30 per cent to 5.3 billion yuan (USD 866 million) in the same period.
Tourism has surged in Tibet after its connectivity is improved by a large network of road, rail and airports in the Himalayan region.
The 8.1 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal in April and affected parts of Tibet has not made much of an impact on Tibet’s tourism. (PTI)
